Architectural History of Suriname
A Tribute to Influences, Layers, and Identity
Long before I began portraying animals or capturing silent encounters, I looked for the traces of culture in buildings. This book on Surinamese architecture is not an encyclopedia, but a photographic exploration of structures that tell stories about colonial influences, domestic adaptations, and the merging of cultures.
I photographed in the city and in the interior. Not with the aim of providing a complete overview, but to capture the soul of places, their repetitions and contrasts.
The result is a visual journey through Suriname, a country where architecture is polyphonic, just like its history.
This book is not for sale here. It is an early document in my search for visual language and meaning. A starting point from which my photography deepened.
