Architectural History of Suriname
A Tribute to Influences, Layers, and Identity
Long before I began portraying animals or capturing silent encounters, I looked for the traces of culture in buildings. This book on Surinamese architecture is not an encyclopedia, but a photographic exploration of structures that tell stories—about colonial influences, domestic adaptations, and the merging of cultures.
I photographed in the city and in the interior. Not with the aim of providing a complete overview, but to capture the soul of places, their repetitions and contrasts.
The result is a visual journey through Suriname—a country where architecture is polyphonic, just like its history.
This book is not for sale here. It is an early document in my search for visual language and meaning. A starting point from which my photography deepened.
